Staying connected in a time of isolation

Staying connected with everything within your life is very important at this current time, and it’s important to keep life as normal as possible. That’s why we all need to stay connected, humans are social creatures - taking away such a regular feature in our lives could have a negative impact.

It’s important to remember at this time that you still have control of those you stay connected with - even if it’s not physically in person.

Here we have devised some tips on how to stay connected when you’re practising social distancing or in quarantine:

Communicate at a distance

You could think about how you can interact with others without putting your health (or theirs) at risk. Can you speak to your neighbours from over a fence or across balconies?

If you have access to technology use it to stay in touch. If you have a smartphone, use the video capabilities (being able to see people’s faces can add a deeper level of connection).

Help others who are vulnerable with shopping

Keep in close contact with your friends, family, and neighbours. Is there anyone you can help, if you are in a position to? Does everyone you know have access to internet? (Think about those who cannot easily use the internet to shop online).

Reconnect with those you live with

This time could be used connecting with the people you are living with. If you are in a lockdown situation, it might be a good idea to use this time to improve your existing relationships, you might be seeing your children more, or perhaps spending more time with a partner, parent or even your pets. This is a unique situation, and we need to make the best of it.

Self-care can help you help others

Getting to know yourself in these (for some) quieter times will help you connect with others. Self-care is a priority, especially if others are relying on you. If your battery is empty, you can’t give anything. Stress might factor into this, use this time to manage your stress levels effectively. This can be done in a multitude of different ways, we suggest movement, daily exercises, and meditation. It’s also so important to take some time out of your day to do things you really enjoy and just generally keep to a daily routine as much as possible. We are creatures of habit, try and keep everything as normal as possible, you’ve got this!
